Workshops
This workshop is intended as an orientation for newcomers with limited English language skills, lack of Canadian experience, who need to work as quickly as possible and need more guidance to facilitate their integration in the Alberta workforce. They would be provided with an overview of employment positions in demand in Alberta such as Community Support Workers, Residential Support Workers, Home Care Workers, Health Care Aids, Kitchen Aids, General Labourers and Security Guards. Since these clients have not had an opportunity to be exposed to these occupations in their own countries, the workshop would provide information on the types of responsibilities and duties performed, a review of transferable skills, working conditions, required training as well as an introduction to Employment Standards and Health and Safety Act. The workshop would be offered on a weekly basis and would complement the Working Here workshop as well as other workshops. The client would also benefit from the Interview Review workshop to have an in-depth interview practice targeting one of the aforementioned positions.
